The general settings of Windows 10 are not in accordance with the Dutch data protection law. That is the conclusion of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) after its investigation of the newest computer system of Microsoft.

Windows 10 collects automatically personal data of its users. However, Microsoft does not clearly inform the users about the collection, possession and use of the data through the current opt-out options. On installation the user is only asked to accept the default offered settings. In order to comply with the Dutch data protection law, Microsoft has to obtain unambiguous consent of its users.

Microsoft has indicated that it will make requisite adjustments. If not, the Dutch DPA can decide to impose a sanction on Microsoft.
