The CEO of Barclays, one of Britain’s top banks, will have his salary slashed after trying to unmask a whistle-blower. After an investigation by Barclays board and Simmons & Simmons LLP, an external law firm, the bank concluded that the CEO had "honestly, but mistakenly believed that it was permissible to identify the author of the letter."

How much the CEO loses will be determined once U.K. financial regulators finish an investigation into his behaviour and the bank's approach to whistle-blowers.
